The first part of the lecture will explain the origins and development of "counter-archives" and their evolution, in the context of internal and external Soviet dissidence and Cold War documentation policies. The second part of the lecture will focus on the collaborative project "Dissinvent" and its results. The final part will reflect on some archival "returns" from France to the Russian Federation and their consequences.

Sophie Coeuré is Professor of Contemporary History at Université Paris Cité - Academic Chair in the Knowledge Democracy Hub, Circle U. European University Alliance - Vice-President of the Institut d'études slaves, Paris.
