The Rosa Somborac Award, established through a bequest from her estate, is awarded to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Department of Slavic & East European Languages & Cultures for academic research study programs (such as archival research) and/or costs for summer study programs (including language courses) in Serbia. Typically, the grant covers travel, accommodation, and enrolment fees in a course. Students will be expected to cover day-to-day living costs. The minimum duration of a trip is 3 weeks.
Previously, recipients of this award have undertaken archival research in Belgrade and attended language courses in Novi Sad. We also welcome proposals that involve unpaid internships and volunteering work in Serbia. In the past, a student worked at a radio station in Belgrade while another volunteered for an organization in Vojvodina that helps the elderly.
Please note that successful applicants must complete the Safety Abroad Workshops organized by the Centre for International Experience at the University prior to their travels.
Priority will be given to students who have not previously been awarded the Rosa Somborac Travel Award. However, previous recipients are welcome to apply.
Eligibility:
Preference will be given to students who have done at least 1 FCE in the South Slavic program.

We would like to invite interested candidates to apply with the following by Monday, 7 April 2025.
